A race against the heat.
I feel like I have to hurry and cram as many outdoor things into our schedule as possible. I just want to soak up all this beautiful weather to try to make it last longer. The heat is coming. I can feel it already. In fact, after going to the zoo on Friday and doing a carwash on Saturday, I have a sunburn!
Here are some funny pictures from the zoo. We were feeding the Lorries when this happened. . . . . . .

Babies don't keep
Song for a Fifth Child.
by Ruth Hulburt Hamilton.
Written in 1958 and first published in the Ladies Home Journal
Mother, O Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing, make up the bed,
Sew on a button and butter the bread.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.
Oh, I've grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue,
Lullabye, rockabye, lullabye loo.
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo
The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew
And out in the yard there's a hullabaloo
But I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo
Look! Aren't his eyes the most wonderful hue?
Lullabye, rockaby lullabye loo.
The cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow
But children grow up as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs; Dust go to sleep!
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

TENT SCHOOLING
I'VE SAID BEFORE THAT I HAVE GIVEN UP ON HOMESCHOOLING.
NOT REALLY.
JUST GAVE UP ON TRYING TO "DO SCHOOL" AT HOME.
LIKE THIS MORNING. . .
EMMA HELPED ME MAKE WAFFLES.
THAT WOULD BE MATH, AND MAYBE SOME CHEMISTRY.
THE KIDS ALL WROTE LETTERS TO THEIR GREAT GRANDPARENTS. . .
YOU KNOW, GREAT GRANDPA KING AND GREAT GRANDMA QUEEN.
(THEIR LAST NAME IS KING BUT CONNER INSISTS THAT IF GRANDPA IS KING,
THEN GRANDMA IS QUEEN.)
SO, THAT WOULD BE HANDWRITING, SOME GRAMMER.
DON'T GET THE WRONG IDEA.
I PRETEND TO BE WAYYYY MORE FREE-SPIRITED THAN I AM.
WE STILL DO OUR WORKBOOKS AND MULTIPLICATION TABLES, ETC.
HOW FUN IS IT TO DO OUR SCHOOL WORK IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR LIVING ROOM IN A TENT!?
