I made my first batch of homemade laundry detergent in March.
I just ran out the other day. I got the recipe from the Duggar's Family website.
Everything is phosphate free except maybe the Fels-Naptha soap.
It does not say on the wrapper or online.
I purchased all of these ingredients for under $10.
The washing soda and Borax will probably last me the rest of the year.
The bar of soap was under $2.
I would say that having laundry soap that costs less than $10,
works really well and
lasts over 4 months is pretty cool!
First I grated the bar of soap with my awesome salad shooter!
Then I boiled it in 4 cups water.
Stir often

filled half full of hot water.
I also added
a cup of washing soda and
1/2 cup of borax
You can add essential oils if you would like.
I tried it and you cannot smell it on your cloths at all so
I kind of felt like it was a waste.

I used to do this all the time (got my recipe from The Family Homestead, but it looks the same). I need to go back to doing that...can't remember why I quit???
Anyway, thanks so much for stopping by the blog!
~Amy...who probably should not have had that last Dr. Pepper ;)
How do you get it from the bucket to the bottles? I'd love to try that!
So like a year later, I'm commenting on this post just to tell you that I have sent this link to several friends and family members who have wanted to try making their own detergent b/c of how much I like mine. Thanks for the inspiration...last year! I AM JUST NOW ABOUT TO MAKE MY SECOND BATCH! It has lasted me 9 months or so!!!
